Welcome to Amaya's Fresh Mexican Grill

Larry and Sue

The Amaya Family Story

Larry and Sue Amaya first came to Monroe County as migrant farm workers, building their lives through hard work and deep community roots. Larry fondly recalls working the Eiperly Farm, where the families were treated with kindness and respect — memories that still guide the values of the restaurant today. In 1969, he joined the Ford Monroe Stamping Plant, eventually becoming a supervisor and later serving as an American Advisor in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Sue spent her career with the State of Ohio before retiring in 2007. Her influence lives on in the kitchen — she remains the inspiration behind many of the dishes served at Amaya’s Fresh Mexican Grill.

Chef Tino's Evolution

Tino Amaya’s culinary journey began at just 11 years old, washing dishes and learning to cook at his grandparents’ restaurant in Toledo, Ohio. Inspired by his grandmother’s from-scratch cooking, he developed a passion for honoring tradition while embracing creativity. After relocating to Texas for school, Tino joined Eateries, Inc. as a culinary apprentice, gaining experience that took him across the country opening restaurants and learning both the kitchen and business sides of the industry. Today, Tino and his wife Jennifer have called the Monroe area home for over 15 years, raising their five children and building a business rooted in family, flavor, and community.
